The Voi Gemstone, Value Addition, and Marketing Center, inaugurated by the President in October 2023, has quickly established itself as a cornerstone for the gemstone industry in Kenya. This vital facility supports artisanal miners and licensed traders by facilitating the documentation, processing, and selling of gemstones.

Within less than a year, the center has experienced a remarkable surge in activities, fueled by the allocation of trading booths to miners in associations and organized groups. This initiative has empowered artisanal miners, providing them with a safe and supportive environment to conduct their business. The increase in activity reflects the center’s success in meeting the needs of the mining community.

The facility’s growth is attributed to strategic investments in equipment, space allocation, and a collaborative working regime among all stakeholders. These efforts are designed to foster a thriving gemstone market and empower local miners.

To further stimulate growth and consolidate the progress made in the mining sector, the Voi Gemstone, Value Addition, and Marketing Center is hosting its inaugural Tsavorite Summit. This prestigious conference and exhibition event will bring together regional and international buyers, dealers, miners, and exhibitors. It is the first time the facility has hosted such a significant event, underscoring its importance in the gemstone industry.

The summit represents the government’s commitment to the empowerment of miners by providing a platform where miners, buyers, traders, and exhibitors can converge. This venue, specifically designed to support and promote artisanal mining activities, highlights the government’s dedication to transforming the mining sector into a profitable enterprise for all involved.

As a department, we pledge to continue working closely with all parties to ensure the mining sector’s growth and sustainability, benefiting miners and the broader economy
