Nairobi, Kenya — September 26, 2024 — High Court Judge Alexander Muteti has ordered the police to produce Wajir Member of County Assembly (MCA) Yusuf Hussein Ahmed by 10:00 a.m. on Friday and provide an explanation for his whereabouts. The ruling follows an application filed by the MCA’s cousin, Abdikadir Abdillahi, who expressed grave concerns over Ahmed’s disappearance.
Yusuf Hussein Ahmed was allegedly abducted by unidentified armed individuals on the night of September 13, 2024, while traveling in a taxi. According to the petitioner, Ahmed was forcefully removed from the vehicle at gunpoint in South B estate, Nairobi, at around 8:00 p.m. that evening.
Abdikadir stated in his application that despite reporting the incident to the authorities, four days passed with no information about Ahmed’s location or condition. He expressed fears that Ahmed may have been abducted by officers attached to the Inspector General of Police or the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), who have allegedly refused to allow the family to visit him in custody or present him in court.
“The whereabouts of Yusuf Hussein Ahmed remain unknown and unaccounted for,” Abdikadir stated. He argued that without court intervention, the family would continue to suffer anxiety and distress due to Ahmed’s forced disappearance.
Judge Muteti’s order for the police to produce Ahmed by Friday aims to address these concerns and ensure transparency in the case. The family is hopeful that the court’s involvement will shed light on the situation and lead to Ahmed’s safe return or legal proceedings, if necessary.
The case has drawn significant attention, highlighting ongoing concerns about enforced disappearances and the need for accountability within law enforcement agencies in Kenya.
