The Kenya Forestry Research Institute (KEFRI) has reaffirmed its commitment to quality and sustainability by achieving ISO 9001:2015 and ISO 14001:2015 recertifications from the Kenya Bureau of Standards (KEBS). This milestone highlights KEFRI’s dedication to excellence in quality management and environmental conservation.
Eng. Zachariah Lukorito, representing the KEBS Managing Director during the recertification ceremony, commended KEFRI for its focus on continuous improvement and adherence to international standards. “This achievement reflects KEFRI’s leadership in delivering superior services while safeguarding the environment,” he said.
With 13 years of ISO implementation experience, KEFRI has consistently demonstrated its role as a leader in forestry research. Its efforts align with President William Ruto’s ambitious goal of planting 15 billion trees by 2032. Acting Conservation Secretary George Tarus praised KEFRI’s innovative contributions, particularly the Jaza Miti App, a tool that helps users select tree species, document plantings, and monitor growth to enhance accountability in reforestation efforts.
Under the leadership of Chief Executive Officer Jane Njuguna, KEFRI has upheld global standards while driving sustainable forestry practices in Kenya. This recertification underscores KEFRI’s commitment to fostering innovation, improving service delivery, and preserving Kenya’s natural resources, inspiring other institutions to prioritize quality and environmental stewardship.
