Kenya’s golf team has emerged victorious at the East African Community (EAC) Inter-Parliamentary Games, clinching the top spot in the Men’s Golf Competition with an impressive aggregate score of 378 on the challenging par-71 Nyali Golf Course.
The tournament, graced by Clerk of the National Assembly Samuel Njoroge and Director Joseph Nyaga, brought together parliamentary teams from Uganda, Rwanda, Tanzania, Sudan, and the East African Legislative Assembly (EALA) for an exciting regional showdown.
Leading the charge for Kenya, Machakos Town MP Hon. Caleb Mule emerged as the overall Best Male Player with 100 points, narrowly trailing Uganda’s Hon. Nayebale Sylvia, who secured 117 points and took home the title of Best Overall Player.
Kenya’s dominance was further solidified by Buuri MP and Men’s Golf Captain Hon. Rindikiri Mugambi, who won Best Male Player in Round 2, while Senator Chesang was named Best Male Player in Round 1.
In the Women’s category, Mwea MP Hon. Mary Maingi delivered a stellar performance, clinching three titles: Best Lady, Longest Drive Lady, and Nearest to Pin Lady, with a commendable 99 points. Maingi, boasting a handicap of 16.9, showcased her experience and skill as a key asset for Kenya’s team.
Other Kenyan lawmakers who showcased their talent across the three rounds included Hon. Chege Kiragu (84), Hon. Kassim Sawa (83), Hon. Fred Ikana (75), Hon. Kamau Munyoro (71), Hon. Mugo Edwin (60), Hon. Passaris Esther (45), Hon. Mukami Rahab (41), and Senator Kamau Kithuku (25).
Despite Uganda producing the overall individual winner, Kenya’s men’s team proved unbeatable, demonstrating skill and consistency throughout the tournament.
During the event, Kenya Golf Union Chairman David Ndung’u encouraged women MPs to bring more female legislators into the sport to meet the minimum team requirement of four members. Hon. Fred Ikana highlighted plans to hire a golfing coach to introduce new members to the sport and sharpen the skills of existing players.
Ugandan Deputy Speaker Hon. Tayebwa Thomas praised Kenya for its exceptional hospitality and organization during the tournament, applauding the event’s role in fostering regional unity.
“We are so grateful to Kenya for the exceptional hosting and the security accorded to the East African Community countries during the tournament. This kind of initiative will help in deepening and strengthening the integration process,” said Hon. Tayebwa.
Sponsored by Kenya Commercial Bank (KCB), the tournament’s final round capped off a successful competition, solidifying Kenya’s position as a powerhouse in regional parliamentary sports.
