A director of a non-governmental organization, Halima Samson Mwongera, alias Halima Saado, was on Wednesday charged at the Milimani Court with obtaining goods worth Ksh 19,820,000 through fraudulent means.
Halima appeared before Milimani Magistrate Benmark Ekhubi, where she pleaded not guilty to the charges. The magistrate released her on a bond of Ksh 1 million with an alternative cash bail of Ksh 500,000, accompanied by one contact person. Magistrate Ekhubi further directed that the matter be mentioned in Court Three, where Halima faces a similar case.
According to the charge sheet, it is alleged that between August 31 and September 17, 2024, in Nairobi City, within Nairobi County, Halima conspired with others already in court to defraud Josphine Karabu Kaberia, trading as Talos Group Kenya Limited. The goods obtained included:
- 2,550 sacks of 25kg of Biryani rice,
- 1,550 jerrycans of 10 liters of cooking oil,
- 500 pieces of Menengai soap bars,
- 550 sacks of brown sugar, and
- 400 bales of 24kg wheat flour,
all valued at Ksh 19,820,000.
The court has scheduled the matter for mention on November 26, 2024, for pre-trial directions and consolidation with the related case.
