The Nairobi County Chief Officer for Urban Planning, Patrick Analo, has ordered the closure of a construction site in Parklands following concerns over excavation work that caused significant damage to a neighboring building.
The excavation activities at the site reportedly led to the collapse of part of the adjacent building, raising serious safety and structural concerns for residents in the area.
Chief Officer Analo confirmed that the closure was necessary to prevent further harm and to allow a thorough investigation into the incident. Urban planning authorities are working to determine whether the construction activities complied with approved regulations and standards.
“The safety of residents and the structural integrity of buildings is our top priority. Such incidents highlight the need for strict adherence to construction and urban planning regulations,” said Analo.
Local authorities have launched an inspection to assess the extent of the damage and to establish accountability. The investigation will also determine whether the construction site had secured proper permits and whether the excavation was carried out responsibly.
Residents in the affected area have expressed concerns over lax enforcement of urban planning guidelines and called for stricter oversight of construction projects.
The closure of the site underscores the Nairobi County Government’s commitment to ensuring that all developments meet safety and regulatory standards, protecting both property and lives in the city.
