The Wildlife Research and Training Institute (WRTI) has commenced a high-level retreat to refine its policies and align with the Strategic Plan (2023–2027). The meeting, involving board members and senior management, aims to enhance governance and operational efficiency, ensuring WRTI’s continued leadership in wildlife research and training.
Dr. David Nkendiaye, WRTI Board Chair, emphasized the importance of adaptability in an evolving conservation landscape. “Policy reviews keep organizations dynamic and responsive, enabling us to address emerging challenges effectively,” he said.
WRTI Director Dr. Patrick Omondi noted that robust policies are essential for the Institute’s mandate. “This retreat reinforces our governance framework, empowering us to tackle critical conservation issues like climate change, habitat loss, and human-wildlife conflict,” he remarked.
The retreat integrates the BETA framework, focusing on efficiency and accountability, and positions WRTI to influence national and regional wildlife policies. As stakeholders finalize the review, the outcome is expected to provide a strong foundation for transformative research, training, and conservation efforts to protect Kenya’s rich biodiversity for future generations.
