Naivasha, Kenya – The National Construction Authority (NCA) has taken a bold step toward reforming Kenya’s built environment with the presentation of the National Building Code 2024 during a high-level session with Deputy Governors at the Deputy Governors’ Caucus in Naivasha.

The new Code, introduced with backing from the State Department of Public Works and the NCA Board, aims to raise construction standards nationwide, aligning Kenya with global best practices while addressing local development challenges.

Eng. Maurice Akech, MBS, Executive Director of the NCA, called the Code a “regulatory catalyst” for safe, sustainable, and inclusive development.

“The Code fosters collaboration and compliance at all levels of government and industry,” he said.

The updated framework sets out clear rules on structural safety, fire prevention, energy efficiency, environmental safeguards, and accessibility. It also streamlines licensing, enhances contractor accountability, and seeks to prevent building failures and environmental harm.

Recognizing the vital role counties play in enforcing the Code, the NCA committed to support all 47 counties with training, technical guidance, and policy harmonization to ensure effective rollout.

Deputy Governors welcomed the initiative, pledging cooperation to implement the Code and improve construction standards across Kenya.

The engagement marks a key milestone in creating a safer, greener, and more accountable construction sector—one where national and county governments align to uphold public safety and development integrity.
