John Mwendwa Appointed CEO of Kenya Investment Authority

The Kenya Investment Authority (KenInvest) has appointed Mr. John Mwendwa, OGW, as its new Chief Executive Officer, effective January 2025.

Mr. Mwendwa, a seasoned leader with over 20 years of experience in both public and private sectors, is widely credited for driving Kenya’s Ease of Doing Business agenda, elevating the country’s global ranking from 136th in 2013 to 56th in 2019. His leadership has been instrumental in implementing legal and regulatory reforms and facilitating investment transactions worth $1.5 billion in the past 18 months.

KenInvest Board Chairperson, Mrs. Sally Mahihu, expressed confidence in his appointment. “John Mwendwa’s deep understanding of Kenya’s business environment will be key to attracting and supporting investments. Under his leadership, KenInvest will solidify Kenya’s position as a premier investment hub,” she stated.

In his acceptance remarks, Mr. Mwendwa expressed gratitude and pledged to accelerate investment growth. “I am honored to take on this role and look forward to contributing to Kenya’s economic transformation.”

Mr. Mwendwa holds a Master’s degree in Finance from Strathmore University and a Bachelor’s degree in Commerce from Kenyatta University, alongside executive training from Oxford and Harvard. His appointment marks a significant step as Kenya strengthens its efforts to become Africa’s top investment destination.
