Murang’a County, December 11, 2024 – Learners at Karimamwaro Primary School are set to benefit from a transformative KES 30 million infrastructure upgrade commissioned by the M-Pesa Foundation under its Citizens of the Future programme. The initiative focuses on improving school infrastructure in Kenya’s neediest regions.
The project will include renovating six classrooms for Grades 1 to 6, constructing three Junior Secondary classrooms, and upgrading an Early Childhood Development Education (ECDE) Centre. Additionally, the school will receive a new science laboratory, a fully equipped library, gender-specific ablution blocks, and a water harvesting system with storage tanks.
Joseph Ogutu, Chairman of the Safaricom Foundation, highlighted the importance of education in uplifting communities. “Education has the power to unlock potential and improve livelihoods regardless of background. Through partnerships with the Ministry of Education and county governments, we are committed to transforming lives by addressing critical education infrastructure needs,” he stated.
Since 2010, M-Pesa Foundation’s education programmes have reached over 1.3 million learners across all 47 counties, including initiatives like the M-Pesa Foundation Academy for disadvantaged children. The Karimamwaro project continues the Foundation’s legacy of fostering economic and social empowerment through education.
