MOA President Mourns Victims of Narok-Mai Mahiu Road Accident

Narok, Kenya – Albert Karakacha, President of the Matatu Owners Association (MOA), has expressed deep sorrow over the tragic loss of seven lives in two separate but related road accidents on Monday morning along the Narok-Mai Mahiu Road.

The accidents, which occurred at around 10 a.m., involved six vehicles and a motorcycle. According to police reports, a trailer en route to Mai Mahiu from Narok suffered a tyre burst, lost control, and rammed into a Toyota Premio, an ENA Coach bus, and a Narok-Line matatu. Three passengers in the matatu lost their lives instantly as the vehicles veered off in different directions.

Shortly after, a second speeding trailer heading toward Narok collided head-on with a Toyota Prado near the accident scene while attempting to maneuver past it. Two occupants of the Prado died instantly, and a third succumbed to injuries at Narok County Referral Hospital.

The trailer also ran over a motorcycle, killing two pillion passengers instantly.

President Karakacha offered his condolences to the bereaved families and called for heightened road safety measures. “This tragic incident reminds us of the urgent need for vigilance on our roads, proper vehicle maintenance, and strict adherence to traffic regulations to prevent such devastating losses,” he said.

The Narok-Mai Mahiu Road has seen a spate of accidents, raising concerns over safety enforcement and road conditions. The MOA has pledged to work with stakeholders to improve road safety and reduce fatalities.
