Kenyan Members of Parliament showcased their remarkable skills and competitive spirit during the darts competition at the East African Community Inter-Parliamentary Games (EAC-IPG). The event, held at the Aga Khan Academy, highlighted Kenya’s dominance in the tournament as lawmakers battled regional counterparts in a thrilling display of accuracy and strategy.
Westlands MP Timothy Wanyonyi Wetang’ula, captain of the men’s team, led with determination and skill. In the opening match, Wanyonyi faced off against a formidable Ugandan opponent in a closely contested battle, ultimately securing a 2–1 victory that was met with rousing applause from fans and colleagues.
In the women’s category, Makueni MP Rose Museo triumphed over her Ugandan rival, also winning 2–1 in an intense match. Turbo MP Janet Sitienei delivered an outstanding performance, defeating her Tanzanian opponent with precision and flair, much to the delight of the audience.
While Nominated Senator George Mbugua narrowly lost to a Tanzanian competitor in a hard-fought match, his commendable sportsmanship was applauded.
The inclusivity of the tournament was further underscored by the official launch of the Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) darts category, inaugurated by Rt. Hon. Joseph Ntakirutimana, Speaker of the East African Legislative Assembly. Hon. Ntakirutimana reiterated his commitment to supporting legislators living with disabilities and fostering inclusivity in regional sports events.
As the tournament progresses, anticipation grows for the upcoming rounds, with Kenyan legislators determined to maintain their impressive performance and bring home more victories. The games continue on Wednesday at the same venue, promising more thrilling contests.
